The Hero of Our Gardens
![]() |
Mr Tan has been working in our school as a gardener for more than 10 years. We had the privilege to meet him on 2nd August 2019 to have a face-to-face chat. This cheery elderly man wore a smile when we asked him about his job. While he expressed great passion for his job, he said that it was not easy to take care of the numerous species of flora in the school. He has been kept busy day-in day-out, just to ensure that the flora is blooming and flourishing. While he claims that many species of flora in the school are common, and there is no particular one that he likes, from the amount of work he has to undertake each day, he has certainly put in a lot of effort to take care of the flora in our school. When we asked him about the fauna in school, he mentioned that while birds, lizards and squirrels are common sights, he has also sighted several small snakes. The humorous Mr Tan also said that large animals like lions would not be hiding in the gardens, and we should not be worried about them. What warms our heart is that his greatest joy working in the school is being able to see each batch of students come and go, and appreciate what is grown in the gardens. At the end of the session, he encouraged students to come to the gardens when they are free to take a relaxing walk. |
